About the Event

This panel stemmed from work at the National Organization for Research Development Professionals (NORDP) Great Lakes virtual retreat in January 2021. A day was devoted to issues of racial and social justice and action items were identified and some models in place at institutions were shared. This panel presentation will capture some of the ways in which Research Development professionals have been able to make contributions toward Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at their institutions. Maggie Berg and Kelsey Hassevoort of the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute (IHSI) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) will discuss the localized Diversity Committee they created in their unit, Niswander of the Bureau of Educational Research at UIUC will discuss creating a mechanism to bring students into the center of the conversations about racial and social justice, and Etta Ward of Indianna University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) will discuss partnering with the nonprofit Catalyst to bring Conversation Roadblock sessions to her university, NORDP, and other entities. The panel will be followed by a discussion of ideas and steps forward and sharing of what the audience may be doing at their institutions and what's working and what's not and brainstorm on some next steps.
