Amanda Welch, Ph.D. graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Medical Sciences and concentration in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System on molecular physiology, focusing on the epigenetics of hypertension. During her career at the bench, she authored five first-author publications, presented at numerous local events as well as three national and two international meetings, for which she won the Young Investigators Award.
Once Dr. Welch began her career as an editor outside of academia in 2016, she found there was a need for helping academics navigate the transition from academia to so-called alternative careers. That August she started the Recovering Academic Podcast that focuses on those issues as well as interviewing those who have made the transition.
Dr. Welch specializes in proposal development for the biomedical sciences, particularly in NIH proposals. She brings her experience at the bench to facilitating large proposals, assisting individual investigators through the proposal development process, and leading her manuscript writing course.
