Research Funding

We help individuals and teams understand the “why” beneath the “how” of the proposal development process while providing concrete and actionable tools that decrease frustration and increase success.

In-person and virtual seminars

Seminar sessions combine lecture format and engagement activities, customized to your needs and potential funding targets. We design our training to convey the fundamentals of proposal writing--concepts backed up with concrete tips and operational strategies--and provide tools for planning and longer-term sustainability.

ATG’s approach to grant writing training includes “stop and practice” moments, short group discussions, “in-classroom flipped classroom” and moments for shared metacognition. Our use of virtual tools and interactive technology enhance the experience for both presenters and participants, whether in a lecture hall or Zoom room.

All seminars can be given in person or online and adapted to a variety of experience levels.

When delivered online, full-day seminars comprise four 2-hour modules, or two 4-hour modules, scheduled with the institution. Half-day seminars can be given as two 2-hour sessions or one 4-hour session.

Individual and group proposal development

ATG Consultants work directly with faculty to produce a competitive proposal. The program uses mentoring and instruction with intensive feedback and editing. The product should be a competitive proposal and the skills for long-term grant success.

For group programs, we partner with the institution to select participants on a competitive basis. This ensures that the participants take the process seriously and helps to protect the institutional investment. Group programs promote a culture of mutual support and collaboration, including a mock review panel and individual meetings with ATG consultants.

For individual researchers or small collaborative teams we provide the same intensive feedback and editing for long-term skill development. Individual consultations can be expanded to include one-on-one coaching for research leadership development.

Support for high-value proposals

Our consultants bring direct experience with many agencies and types of multi-investigator proposals. We can help lower the "activation barrier" for faculty who may be interested in pursuing larger-scale projects and centers.

We can provide coaching in team development and the creation of management strategies at early stages that support both to the process of preparing the proposal and creating management structures for sustainable leadership and success.

We can help you find the through-line in a complex information field to create a coherent and compelling proposal.

ATG will also work with your staff during the proposal development process and include them on our team to teach the approaches we use.
